Letter Home Journal

Dear Parents,

Your child will be writing a letter to you each week in his/her Letter Home Journal.  This communication to you will relay any activities of the week and additional personal notes he/she might want to add.  Your child will bring this journal home at the end of the week.

After reading your child’s letter, please go to the next page and PRINT your response to the letter so your child is able to read it.  A short paragraph commenting on his/her works or thoughts would be appropriate and rewarding.  Also, the family is invited to write about family happenings. 

Please return the Letter Home Journal on the next school day, so your child can continue writing in it.

Welcome to second grade! My name is Allison Gillenwater. I have a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from Florida State University. Go  Noles! I am origionally from Miami, Florida. I enjoy reading, cooking, and spending time with my husband Brian and my son Jack.

Snack

Please send a healthy snack with your child each day. Some healthy options include: crackers,fruit, vegetables, cheese sticks, granola bars, fruit bars, and yogurt. water is always available in our classroom, water bottles may be send in if preferred. Extra non persishable snack donations are always appreciated.

Homework Proceedures

Homework will be sent home each Monday and is to be returned on Friday. Please help your child get started on thier assignments and check their work once it is completed. The homework calendar will contain spelling words of the week, which should be practiced throughout the week. Spelling dictation will be given for the words of the week. Reading with you child is extremely important, please read with your child daily and record the number of minutes spent reading on the homework calendar.
