About the Teacher

My name is Diane Lurie and I am your child's teacher this year. This is my 24th year of teaching in Cobb County. I have taught second, third, and fourth grade, but third is my favorite grade to teach. I am married and have a son in college. In my free time I enjoy reading and playing tennis.

Social Studies Project:

Students will have a social studies project after we have finished the government unit. The project will be assigned on Tuesday, November 29 and is due on Tuesday, December 13. Each student will present their project to the class. Students will be bringing home their social studies book and work completed in class that will help complete the project at home. Please let me know if you have any questions about the project.

Important Dates:

Gator-Aid Food Drive for Must Ministries- We are collecting can goods and boxed food. A list of needed items will be sent home with your child. We will collect items from November 7-11

November 8- Teacher Workday- No School for students

Friday, November 11- Family Movie Night.

October 5- Addison Walk to School Day

October 5-14 Cog AT and IOWA testing. Testing will begin each day at 8:00. Please have you child at school on time each day. They should eat breakfast every day.

October 11- Picture Retakes- you must return your child's pictures if you want them to be redone.

October 14- Fall Festival 5-8 PM

October 14- Reflection Contest Entries are Due. Information about this contest was sent home on 9/29/11. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to show their creativity

October 24-28- Conference Week- Students will be dismissed at 12:20 each day. Please let me know if you are unable to come at you day or time that was sent home and we can reschedule. I look foward to meeting with each of you.

Spirit Day is every Friday. Show you Addison Spirit by wearing an Addison shirt or a green shirt.

Homework:

Math homework is assigned to reinforce and practice what has been taught in class. Students will be writing in their agenda their homework for the night. Please sign your child's homework so that I know that you have seen the work.

Spelling homework will begin the week of August 29th. All spelling homework for the week will be completed in a spelling notebook. Please read the letter in your child's spelling notebook so that you are aware of the assignment each week.

Reading Logs will begin on September 1st. Your child will have a calendar in the front of their Gator Notebook to record their nightly reading.

Please plan to attend Open House for 3rd grade on September 8th at 6:00. I will be going over many things that will help your child be successful this school year. I hope to see many of you at Open House.
