Jan Brett will be the focus of the author study this month. We will learn that she creates borders or frames around the pages of the story. Within these borders Jan Brett tells another story that complements the primary story. The border also offers clues to what might happen on the next page. We take a look at a globe to see the different places on the Earth that Ms. Brett has traveled while she does research for her books. We sure wish we could travel with her! Jan Brett uses her pets and people around her as models for the characters in the stories. It is fun to look at the original picture of the person or animal and then look at the picture of the character in the book to see how they have been morphed. We especially love this in Berlioz the Bear. Jan Brett also has a great website and we enjoy watching her vides, particularly the lion roaring in Africa. Jan Brett offers many weeks of exciting learning for us ahead in the month of January.
