Atomic Learning

Teachers, if you have not tried Atomic Learning you should check it out.  This tool will give you step be step instructions for software help, while you are following along.  If you are in the middle of a project and forget how to do the next step, Atomic Learning can walk you through.  At school, go to the support page.  Click on Instructional Technology on the left-hand side.  Atomic Learning will be a link on the right-hand side of the new page.  You do need a password to get in.  See me and I can get you started.

January 2008 Author of the Month

In January we will learn about Jan Brett.  She travels around the world to do research before writing her books.  In addition to drawing pictures to support the main story, she includes borders on the side of the page that have pictures adding additional information about the supporting characters, and sometimes gives a preview as to what will happen on the next page.  We will also learn how Mrs. Brett uses her pets and the people around her to pose as the characters in the books.  It is fun to look at the real person or pets photographs and compare them to what she has drawn in the book.  Jan Brett has a fantastic website.  You can visit it at http://www.janbrett.com

January 2008 book club

We will not have a book club meeting in January.  The ten students that were chosen to represent Addison in the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl will meet to practice on Monday, January 14.  The actual county competition is on Saturday, January 26 at Osborne High School.  You are invited to support our students at this county competition.

December 2007 Author

This month we will learn about Lois Ehlert.  She uses items from around the house to create collages.  We will do this same activity, after we read the book Snowballs.  We discuss how she uses the triangle to create animal faces in the book Mole's Hill.  After reading the book the students will be given  the outline of an animal with a triangle face to create a picture.

December 2007 Book Club

Third grade students should read a book by Avi before coming to the December 17 book club meeting.

December 2007 Book Club

The kindergarten and first grade students should read a book by Rosemary Wells before coming to the December 10 meeting.  Second graders should read a book by Dick King-Smith before coming to the meeting.  Dick King-Smith is most famous for writing Babe, the Gallant Pig, but has many other animal books.
