November 2007 Author of the Month

This month we are finishing our study of Eric Carle.  We read Draw Me a Star and drew the picture on our own before we looked at the pictures in the book.  The next week we read Little Cloud and made a picture of a cloud using cotton balls.  After Thanksgiving we are going to start learning about Lois Ehlert.

Author Visit!

Chris Rumble will be at our school on Tuesday, November 20.  He writes books about "The Adventures of Uncle Stinky."  I have received great reviews about his shows from other schools and cannot wait to see him here at Addison.  A flyer with more information about purchasing his books will come home with your child on Thursday, November 15.

Eric Carle October 2007

This month we are learning about Eric Carle.  We love that he adds extra touches to his pages.  Some of his books have sounds, lights, or cut out pages making guessing games out of what is on the next page.

Second graders should read a book written by Eve Bunting.

Third Graders will read a book by Beverly Cleary.

Fall Book Fair

The fall book fair will be held Monday, October 1 through Friday, October 5.  Set-up will be on Friday, September 28.  I would be very thankful for anyone that would like to help set-up the book fair or volunteer in the mornings during the book fair.  Contact me at amy.hailey@cobbk12.org to let me know how you can volunteer.

Leo Lionni September 2007

The kindergarten students are learning about Leo Lionni this month.  We have read his Caldecott Honor book Swimmy.  We have been introduced to the idea of books winning an award for having the best picture.  We also understand that Swimmy came in second place for this award, which is still really good.  After we watch a video about Leo, we will read Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse

September 2007 Themes

Kindergarten and First graders should read a book by Bill Martin or Eric Carle.

Second Graders should read a book by Lisa Campbell Ernst.

Third Graders should read a book by Cynthia Rylant.

Fourth and fif th graders will read The Report Card.  I will check a copy out to you as soon as they arrive.

Volunteers Needed!

We need volunteers to help with shelving and special projects in the media center.  We currently need a volunteer on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  If you could come in and help, we would really appreicate it.  Our check-out has dramatically increased this year, and we really need help shelving.
