Web 2.0 Tools

Parents of Third and Fourth Graders,

 One of my goals this year is to add Web 2.0 tools to technology instruction. You will be receiving a letter requesting  you to create a Google account for your child or give me permission to do so.  Web 2.0 tools will allow your child to access his/her work at home or at school.  Sharing of student work at home and school will be easily achieved.

We are well on our way learning new and exciting things in the Computer Lab!

We are learning and applying our technology skills throughout the curriculum.  All grades are working on projects or using Math or Reading programs to enhance their math and reading skills.  Below is listed what each grade level is presently working on in the computer lab.

Kindergarten - Developing their mouse skills using websites and math programs.

First Grade - Creating a slideshow about the Seasons using Kid Pix.

Second Grade - Creating a slideshow about Healthy and Unhealthy Foods using Kid Pix.

Third Grade - Learning how to Keyboard properly.  Please have your students practice.  There are suggested keyboarding websites listed under the Suggested Websites section of my blog.

Fourth Grade -  Learning how to Keyboard properly and how to use Microsoft Word.  Please encourage your child to use proper keyboarding technique.

Welcome to an Exciting New School Year

Welcome Parents, Students and Teachers

I am looking forward to a new and an exciting school year at Addison Elementary!  I look forward to working with each of you in the computer lab.  We will be addressing the Technology Standards as we learn how to use software programs. 

Students will be creating multimedia projects, learning proper keyboarding skills, creating graphs, creating maps, using Microsoft Suite applications, creating graphic organizers, and properly using the Internet.  Students will have the opportunity to use digital cameras and other software to enhance learning.

I would like to introduce myself . . .

I am Terry Elmore, Instructional Technology Specialist for Addison.  I grew up in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia.  I graduated from Radford University in Radford, Virginia in 1977 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Education.  Actually it was Radford College when I graduated.  My first 17 years of teaching were in Virgnia as a Business Education teacher.  Since moving to Georgia, I have been the Instructional Technology Specialist at Addison Elementary.  I really enjoy teaching children of all ages how to properly use technology.

Recycle

Would you like to participate in recycling ink cartridges, old cell phones, and old laptops?  Addison participates in the "Cartridges for Kids" program.  We earn money for each item we recycle.  Send your empty cartridges and discarded cell phones and laptops to the computer lab.  There is a box located outside the computer lab door to place your items.

What are we doing in the Computer Lab?

Students will be creating multimedia projects using application software such as Kid Pix, Powerpoint, and Photostory.  They will create Graphs using Excel or Graph Club.  Creating webs (graphic organizers) with Kidspiration or Inspiration will be a fun learning experience.  Students will begin or continue developing proper keyboarding skills.  Students will learn to use the Internet in a safe, appropriate manner.  They will gain experience using digital cameras.  There are many tools available on the internet that we will be incorporating in our Technology learning this year.  Addison also has software available for students to enhance their learning such as Skills Tutor, Math Facts in a Flash, Turbo Math Facts to mention a few.
